What is a Casein, Lactose, Dairy & Whey Powder Drying Plant?
A Dairy Powder Drying Plant is a fully integrated industrial processing system designed to convert liquid dairy products into stable, free-flowing powders with extended shelf life while preserving nutritional value, protein functionality, flavour, and microbiological safety.
The plant processes various dairy streams including:
- Sweet Whey
- Acid Whey
- Milk
- Cream
- Casein Slurry
- Lactose Solution
- Whey Protein Concentrate
- Whey Protein Isolate
- Dairy Permeate
- Protein Blends
Using advanced dehydration technologies, moisture is removed under precisely controlled thermal conditions to produce export-quality dairy powders suitable for food processing, infant formula, confectionery, bakery, sports nutrition, and pharmaceutical applications.
Working Principle of Dairy Powder Drying Plant
The dairy processing cycle begins with raw milk or whey reception, followed by clarification, fat separation, standardization, pasteurization, and concentration using multi-effect falling film evaporators.
The concentrated feed is atomized into fine droplets through either a high-pressure nozzle atomizer or centrifugal rotary atomizer inside the spray drying chamber. Heated, filtered air rapidly evaporates moisture from the droplets, producing fine powder particles with controlled moisture content and particle morphology.
The powder is discharged into an integrated vibrating or static fluid bed dryer, where secondary drying and cooling stabilize the final moisture level and improve powder flowability.
For lactose production, crystallization is carefully controlled before drying to achieve the desired crystal size and low hygroscopicity. Casein production includes precipitation, washing, dewatering, and drying stages to preserve protein functionality and purity.
The entire process is monitored using automated control systems that regulate feed flow rate, inlet and outlet air temperatures, atomization pressure, chamber pressure, humidity, and final powder moisture.
